Stop the 241 and Save our Parks!

Once again there is a hearing to stop the toll road. This time in front of the U.S. government/the dept of commerce. It was at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in a bigger facility. The support seemed more mixed and cities in the area appeared to pleaded their cases, for or against. I was very impressed with the city of Irvine. Pretty green little city. Also the entire city of Solana Beach was against it.

As I am writing this, it is still going on. You can follow the minute by minute updates at twitter

Energy Star

The kids now like to get water out of the refrigerator.  ”I can do it” I hear from Quinn. Of course our very efficient refrigerator is being left open a bit longer when the kids are parched. If you have kids, make sure you buy the model with the water on the outside. Trust me on this one. : )

Happy green birthday

Felt hat, going greenMy daughter’s fourth birthday is fast approaching and we are counting down the days. That means I need to get busy making plans and setting a date.

I started looking up green ideas for my little princess who wants a party with party favors just like any child today.  However, I am beginning to think my feeble attempts at composting and using the “solar dryer” is surely defeated by just one birthday party and the amount of waste that is produced and energy that is used.

So what else would I do, google a green birthday and….. tada! I found my answers….

No more Oriental trading company for me, I’m going to green party goods! who knew?

stay tuned for more.

Yes we have no bananas

bananaIf you’re like me and only like perfectly yellow bananas with absolutely no spots, there is always that dilemma when a few get too ripe. I started freezing them and my kids love frozen bananas. It’s dessert for them on nights when they really don’t need processed sugar. I also save them for my banana bread.

It’s a very easy receipe and I have had a few requests for it, so I thought I would put it out there.

What you need
1/4 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 cup flour (I use 1 cup whole wheat and 1/2 white flour)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
2-3 ripe bananas

Directions

1. cream butter and sugar
2. mix in eggs
3. add in the dry ingredients
4. add in the rest.

Bake at 350 for 1 hour in a bread loaf pan. or 18 minutes for muffins.

Enjoy!

Quinn is off to School

Quinn at school Quinn’s school started a week after the public system, so after hanging out at home with mama for four days, going on play dates and watching girl shows, she was ready to go back to school. This is her last year at preschool, and then she will be following big bro on the bus and becoming the big girl kindergartener.

A family that bikes together…

We borrowed our friend’s half bike and took both kids on a little bike ride to watch the Pacific Coast Tri. The kids were not interested in the triathlon, but enjoyed “riding” bikes. And the best part of all, no one got hurt.

First Day of Kindergarten

Finnegan with the stop sign

Finnegan started kindergarten today. It was an exciting time for him to be going off to school with out a parent. Riding the school bus for the first time with his best friend. No tears were shed by dear ol mom, and I was pleased with how well he handled himself.

We’ll see how next week goes when Quinn goes back to school.

View the picts from the BIG day.
